Dear Students,
Congratulations on your achievements in the 2025 YKS or 2025 YÖS exams! Welcome to the 2025-2026 academic year. We are here to support you every step of the way on this new journey with us and to help you succeed.
As shown in the attached academic calendar, the academic year will begin on September 22, 2025. We will organize an orientation program to help you adjust to university life during the first few weeks. This program will guide you on topics such as the university and international programs. Your active participation in this process is very important.
We would like to share some key points for you to remember below:
If you have enrolled in the English Language Teaching program, you must attend the preparatory class. To successfully complete this year, you must score at least 70 out of 100 on the language proficiency exam. The language proficiency exam will be held at the School of Foreign Languages on September 10 and 11, 2025. If you have scored 70 or above on an exam recognized by ÖSYM as equivalent to its own four-skill assessment (e.g., TOEFL), you may skip the preparatory year. If you have scored 70 on the YDS administered by ÖSYM, you may choose to have this exam counted as the first session of the proficiency exam, but you must still participate in the second stage of the exam. In this case, you must withdraw from the university registration no later than three business days before the start date of the proficiency exam (September 6, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. for the 2025-2026 academic year) by sending your exemption/partial exemption application and barcoded result document to fgungor@aku.edu.tr, also adding gkapucu@aku.edu.tr.
Students who successfully pass the language proficiency exam can register for their first-year courses between September 15-17, 2025, by logging into the student system (https://obs.aku.edu.tr/oibs/ogrenci/login.aspx) with their e-government information.
If you do not pass the exam, don’t worry. You will participate in a preparatory program at the School of Foreign Languages.

Our university offers the Üniyurt accommodation scholarship and meal scholarship. Applications are made online via this link. It is recommended that students who genuinely need financial support apply for the Turkish Education Foundation scholarship.
A foreign language exam is planned at the beginning of the semester for students wishing to participate in the Erasmus+ program. You can follow the announcements regarding this matter at uim.aku.edu.tr.
