Students from the English Language Teaching (ELT) Department of Afyon Kocatepe University achieved international success by undertaking critical roles in an Erasmus+ project held in Afyonkarahisar.
The mobility phase of the Erasmus+ project titled “From Rural to Innovation: Sustainability and Quality Employment in Agriculture with Young People” was successfully completed in Afyonkarahisar. Ten outstanding students selected from our department earned great appreciation by forming the academic and cultural backbone of the initiative during this process.
From Language Bridges to Global Solutions: Although the project’s main focus was agricultural sustainability, the flawless functioning of the process was ensured thanks to the vital linguistic and cultural mediation of our students. Our students not only provided translation services but also established a high-level communication network between delegations from Italy and Portugal and local experts. This success once again proved the indispensable role of language professionals in global socio-technical projects.
An Experience Where Technology and Culture Blend: Under the guidance of our students, international guests had the opportunity to examine Afyonkarahisar’s technological infrastructure, such as its geothermal greenhouses and smart irrigation systems, while also getting to know the city’s rich cultural heritage and local gastronomy. The visiting delegations particularly highlighted the linguistic competence and professional diplomacy of the AKU ELT team, reinforcing our department’s reputation for training versatile and globally-minded academic candidates.
This project has once again demonstrated that our students are not only future teachers but also key leaders in international development and multidisciplinary collaboration processes.
